Everyday we live with stressors in our lives and if we let it, it can take a toll on our daily lives emotionally, mentally and even physically and left unchecked for too long can often lead to serious health consequences later.

What is Stress?

Stress is the reaction caused when our bodies, emotions and thoughts feel pressure from situations that cause discomfort. It can manifest itself in our bodies in the form of fatigue, irritability and can also trigger harsh and negative emotional outbursts.

What Helps Stress?

While everyone is different, there are many common activities people can do to alleviate the symptoms of stress.

  • Long walks
  • Bike rides
  • Meditating
  • Proper nutrition
  • Aromatherapy
  • Appropriate sleep schedules

While everyone is different, these are great ways of helping to relieve daily fatigue however sometimes it’s necessary to use something with the potential to give you extra relief from the symptoms of your stress.

CBD oil is an amazing and complementary product that can coincide with other stress relieving activities to provide your mind, body and health the additional relief it needs.

What is CBD Oil?

How does CBD Oil help to relieve stress

Full Spectrum CBD Oil

Full-spectrum CBD oil is a term for the oil derived from the

leaves, flowers, and stalks

of the Cannabis Sativa plant. The plant itself contains three major phytochemical components: cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids.

Broad Spectrum CBD Oil

Broad Spectrum CBD oil is CBD oil with all traces of THC removed. Some buyers may be concerned about even trace amounts of THC and opt for products that contain no THC at all.

Increased focus has been given to the effectiveness of CBD oils and products to create a calming effect on its users while also supporting healing benefits from inflammation due to exercising, maintaining healthy sleep cycles and anxiety.

A study on CBD use found that  users of CBD products had their anxiety symptoms reduced in those that had social anxiety disorder while another study in 2015 reviewed popular CBD studies and came to the conclusion that CBD could >help with generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Another 2011 study found that CBD reduced anxiety symptoms in people with social anxiety disorder. A 2015 review of 49 studies found evidence that suggests CBD could help with generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

What’s in CBD Oil?

Cannabinoids

Cannabis Sativa contains over 100 cannabinoids, with the most well-known being CBD and THC. Legally, CBD oil can only contain trace amounts of CBD, and most hemp strains are developed to include higher concentrations of CBD and lower THC concentrations. (All Pure Hemp Supply oils are lab tested to ensure compliance with FDA regulations). CBD is the cannabinoid most responsible for the therapeutic results of hemp-based products.

Terpenes

Cannabis is made up of approximately 150 terpenes, the chemical compounds responsible for determining the plant’s fragrance. It is a well-documented fact that our sense of smell plays an essential role in the psychology of mood, stress, and memory. (We all have that one smell that takes us home!)

In fact, aromatherapy has been a staple of civilization going back to ancient Roman and Egyptian cultures. Source.

Cannabis terpenes as a class, including D-limonene, commonly found in citrus plants, have well-known anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, and immunostimulating properties. Source.

Flavonoids

Hemp is home to approximately 20 flavonoids, the most widely found phenolic compound in the plant kingdom, including fruits, veggies, and grains. (If you just read the phrase phenolic compounds and are scratching your head, you’re not alone.

Phenolic compounds are a by-product of plant metabolism not directly involved in the growth and development process but still provide a vital assist in the plant’s survivability and health.) Like terpenes, multiple studies show that the flavonoids found in cannabis have similar beneficial effects, including anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory action and neuroprotectivity. Source

These essential parts of CBD combine to help the brain & body by providing relief from pain, stress, poor sleep and can be a great benefit to help fight stress.

How is CBD & Marijuana Different?

CBD and marijuana both come from the flowers and other parts of Cannabis plants, the significant difference between the two is the level of THCs or tetrahydrocannibinols, (the ingredient in marijuana that gets users high.)

While there are types, also known as strains of marijuana that have higher percentage levels of THC, CBD oils created from hemp plants must contain levels lower than .3% of THC which doesn’t alter the consciousness of its users.

Additionally, hemp growers and CBD manufacturers are held to a higher standard and their products must meet strict standards and undergo rigorous testing requirements in order to meet government regulations.

While both CBD and marijuana come from the leaves and flowers of the cannabis plant, there is a major difference: THC. The initials stand for tetrahydrocannabinol, it is the cannabinoid  responsible for the marijuana high. Some strains of marijuana contain between 17 percent and 28 percent THC. But hemp, according to the 2018 Farm Bill, must contain less than .3 percent THC, which is not enough to cause intoxication. Licensed hemp growers must follow strict regulations and undergo extensive testing to keep the product safe and within regulation.

How Can Stress Affect the Body?

Stress not only affects your thoughts and mood that directly affects how you feel and handle your stressors but also affects other parts of your body which can cause or add to other health problems over the short, and long-term. Short-term effects on the body include sleeplessness, increased heart rate and irritability but long-term effects of stress on the body include digestional problems, additional strain on the heart and an increased risk of insomnia.

Increased stress leads to the activation of your flight or flight hormones known as adrenaline and cortisol and when your body recognizes increased stress levels, these hormones are released into the bloodstream.

This directly can lead to an increased heart rate, and redirects cortisol in your system which over the long-term leads to memory and focus problems, increased weight gain or loss, anxiety, depression and an an increased risk of heart disease and other associated ailments.

How Does CBD Oil Relieve Stress?

Now that we’ve explored what CBD oil is, we’ll explore how CBD oil helps to relieve stress. While occasional stress is more short-term, coinciding with direct stressors that need to be overcome on a case by case basis, chronic stress is constant or continuing stress that is left untreated. Chronic stress that continues without intervention can affect the brain by altering your mood, attitude and overall feeling of well-being and even alter it’s long-term functioning.

Both anxiety and stress, while two different conditions, both manifest themselves as your body attempts to counter their negative effects. While anxiety and stress are two different conditions and manifest in the body in different ways, they are linked in terms of how the body tries to manage them and in the negative effects they can have over time.
